Coast FIRE Scenario Comparison
Compare up to three Coast FIRE plans side by side. Review changed assumptions, Coast FIRE numbers, estimated dates, risk flags and a plain-English summary, then share or export the comparison without creating an account.
Plain-English Scenario Summary
The Scenario 2 scenario produces a Coast FIRE target that is $58,367 lower than Scenario 1, reaching the target 1 year later. The largest modeled drivers are retirement spending. The comparison describes mathematical differences under the entered assumptions and does not rank the scenarios or recommend one plan.

What You Can Compare Across Coast FIRE Scenarios
Scenarios can differ in portfolio values, dates, contributions, spending, returns, fees, retirement income, household structure or career assumptions. Shared fields are compared directly, while tool-specific fields remain clearly labeled.
Timeline
Compare current age, retirement age, Coast FIRE age, target dates and milestone timing.
Portfolio
Compare current assets, contributions, Coast FIRE numbers, retirement targets and projected values.
Assumptions
Compare nominal return, inflation, investment fees, real return and withdrawal rate.
Retirement Income
Compare pension, Social Security and other income amounts and start ages.
Household and Career
Compare expenses, employment income, work hours, side income and cash-flow results.
Methodology
Compare source tools, schema versions, methodology versions and compatibility status.
Compare Coast FIRE Scenarios in Three Steps
Add Up to Three Scenarios
Create a scenario, import one from another calculator or open a shared comparison.
Normalize and Recalculate
The tool validates each scenario and sends its inputs through the current shared calculator core.
Review, Share or Export
Compare changed inputs, result differences, flags and summaries, then create a share URL or export file.
How Scenario Normalization Keeps Comparisons Consistent
Each scenario is converted into shared units and recalculated through the same calculator core before differences are displayed.
Scenario Form State → Validated Inputs → Normalized Units
Normalized Units → Shared Calculator Core → Comparable Output Object
Stored display strings and previously calculated totals are not used as the authoritative comparison values.
When the Coast FIRE Scenario Comparison Tool Is Useful
Comparing Two Planning Approaches
Use it to compare a current plan with an alternative spending, contribution or retirement-age scenario.
Comparing Career Changes
Use it to compare current employment with reduced-hours or part-time work assumptions.
Comparing Retirement Income Timing
Use it to compare pension, Social Security or other income start ages.
Reviewing Assumption Changes
Use it to compare complete plans that use different return, inflation, fee or withdrawal assumptions.
Sharing a Calculation
Use it to create a reviewable URL without requiring an account.
Exporting Documentation
Use it to create a PDF or CSV record of the selected inputs, outputs and methodology versions.
Avoid These Scenario Comparison Mistakes
Comparing Display Strings
Currency, rates, ages and dates must be normalized before differences are calculated.
Trusting Stored Outputs
Saved output values may become outdated after methodology changes and must be recalculated.
Treating Missing Values as Zero
A field not included in a scenario is different from a field intentionally set to zero.
Ignoring Methodology Versions
Scenarios created under different calculator versions may require migration before comparison.
Reviewing Exported Labels
Share URLs exclude custom scenario names and free-text fields. CSV exports include the scenario names currently shown in the tool, so review those labels before sharing an exported file.
Calling One Scenario Best
A comparison can show mathematical differences without identifying the most appropriate plan.
Assuming One Input Explains Everything
Several changed assumptions may interact, so one-variable driver analysis may not equal the full result difference.
Depending on Non-Deterministic Exports
Random IDs, unstable ordering and viewport-dependent rendering make exports difficult to reproduce.

Coast FIRE Scenario Comparison Questions
How many Coast FIRE scenarios can I compare?
You can compare up to three scenarios at one time. Each scenario may come from a supported calculator or be created as a custom plan.
Do I need an account to save or compare scenarios?
No account is required. Scenarios may be held in the current browser and shared through an encoded URL when those features are enabled.
How are scenarios compared consistently?
The tool validates and normalizes each scenario, then recalculates its outputs through the current shared calculator core before showing differences.
What happens when scenarios use different calculator versions?
The tool attempts to migrate their inputs and recalculates them using the current methodology. It displays a warning when a scenario cannot be migrated reliably.
Does the comparison tell me which scenario is best?
No. It shows changed inputs, result differences, flags and a neutral summary without recommending or ranking the plans.
What information is included in a share URL?
Only the calculator fields selected in the privacy review are encoded. Anyone with the URL may be able to read those included values.
Are shared URLs private or encrypted?
Not by default. A URL-based comparison should be treated as accessible to anyone who receives the link unless a separate protected-sharing system is implemented.
Why are PDF and CSV exports deterministic?
The export engine uses normalized scenario state, stable row ordering and versioned formatting so identical inputs produce the same visible comparison values.
Methodology & Trust Statement
The tool validates and normalizes scenario inputs, recalculates every scenario through the current shared calculator core and compares the resulting output objects against a user-selected baseline.
Share links include only the selected normalized scenario fields. Anyone with the link may be able to inspect those values. PDF and CSV exports use stable scenario ordering, normalized values and versioned formatting to produce reproducible comparison content.
Tool-specific fields are compared only when they have compatible meanings. Missing or incompatible values are not converted to zero.
The comparison describes mathematical differences and calculation flags. It does not recommend, rank or select a scenario.
This tool provides educational scenario comparisons and does not provide investment, tax, legal, employment or retirement advice.
